COOL WHIP Whipped Topping has been a part of my family for years. I used to sneak spoonfuls of COOL WHIP fresh from the freezer, where my mom kept it ready for dolloping it on pudding, pie and hot chocolate.
One of our favorite recipes to make using COOL WHIP is also one of the easiest to make and is great on paper plates next to hamburgers and hot dogs at picnics and parties or at playdates and other get-togethers.
Here is the list of ingredients you will need.
6 oz Jell-O or another flavored gelatin product (I am using Cherry because it’s my favorite.)
Water (To make the gelatin with. You should really drink a glass while making it because it’s good for you!)
Fruit cocktail in juice from a can. Or, sliced fresh or cooked fruit*
A dish to put this all in (I’m using a 8×8 Pyrex pan, which is what we always seemed to use)
8 oz COOL WHIP
First, make a space in your fridge for the dish the dessert will be in to sit while it firms.
Make the gelatin according to directions.
Pour mixture into serving dish and place in refrigerator to firm up a little, about an hour.
Don’t you feel good already having a home for the gelatin? if you’re like me, this is an epiphany and you consider writing a note down on the fridge because you never think to make a home for it first.
Drain fruit from can if you are using canned fruit. Pour fruit into thickened gelatin. If it’s a little too firm, just give the fruit a little push down.

Chill another few hours, until it is set.
Take out your lovely gelatin and fruit combo and resist eating it for breakfast.
Open the tub of COOL WHIP and using a spoon or spatula cover the gelatin.
And- you’re done! Seriously!
Bring along a big spoon or something to serve it with if you’re taking it somewhere.
;
Note- There are several variations of this recipe, including:
- You forgot to put in the fruit after the gelatin thickened. Not a problem. Slice up firm gelatin. Layer in bowl with fruit and and COOL WHIP and you have a trifle-like dessert.
- You somehow made a mess of the dish while putting in fruit/putting on COOL WHIP. To remedy, stick the whole thing including COOL WHIP in the food processor and you have a gelatin fruit salad.
- It’s already 11 p.m. and you’re tired? Go ahead, throw the fruit in with the warm gelatin mixture. It will taste just as good.
- You forget to make it. In that case, just bring the COOL WHIP and some strawberries. Everyone will still love it!
Exhibit A.

How do you use COOL WHIP Whipped Topping?
*A bite of science for you- fresh fruit like papayas, pineapples and kiwis will not let gelatin firm because their enzymes break down the proteins that make it gel. Canned options, because they are cooked, should be fine.
Note: Jell-O size has been corrected from original 3 oz. mention.

What a perfect spring time dessert!
God do I love Cool Whip. I used to freeze the tub, then take it out and scoop strawberries into it as it softened. I try not to do that anymore, it seems too slovenly now that I’m supposedly a responsible parent!
Straight with a spoon here. Yum. I think there’s a reason why they have that strawberry on the tub. It’s one of the best ways to eat it for sure!
This looks delicious and perfect for Spring!
