I’ve got this thing for unicorns

For those who saw the movie Dodgeball, remember the scene where Marcia Brady- um, I mean Kate has that house full of unicorns. I mean, the walls, and the statues, and the freaking carousel horse that is a unicorn? While Mr. Wonder (to-be at the time)  cringed at the sight, I was secretly delighted.

Wall to wall unicorns would be my style.

I’ve been a fan on unicorns since Unico, My Little Pony and ‘The Last Unicorn film’* first rocked my world in elementary school. I wore out my school’s copy of “The Unicorn and the Lake“, and then I discovered the movie Legend, which just grew my obsession and passion.

I collected them, I wore them on shirts, I daydreamed about them and read lengthy books about their history.

I know I wasn’t the first little girl who loved unicorns. But how many girls grow out of the love?

I mean, have you seen my Pinterest board for unicorns?

Unicorns come and go in popular culture, much like how the zombie is still having its ridiculous heyday (and by ridiculous I have also written about them three times and unicorns like once, how depressing).

And its been a passion that is hard to cultivate in a marriage. Rounding back to the Dodgeball reference, it’s not like I can shower my room in unicorns- I have a spouse who is not into that kind of thing.

So I am considering sneaking it in as we slowly get neat things hung on walls.

This entire line? Rocks. Maybe my husband would be OK with  a picture of Mr. T riding a unicorn decorated like the A-Team van?? “I pity the fool who don’t believe!”

Orange crate labels are kind of a thing both in my family (who has orange groves) and my town (which had a lot of orange groves) this label was actually local to my area.

I want this hanging over our bed, but with my husband’s expressed desire for red and black, this may just have to go somewhere else. Because it’s happening. So elegant, so reminiscent of ‘The last Unicorn’

“The unicorn lived in a lilac wood…”

Perfect for the couch when company comes.

I have a little thing for steampunk- some of the clothes, jewelry and art is just beautiful, even though i don’t own anything YET. This color scheme would actually go well in my living room, and it’s a strong contender.

It’s always handy to have a chart in the kitchen, no? Save some magic for me! Just kidding.

This may only be too cute to have in the craft room/office, but it would be worth it. And inspiring in the sewing department, no?

Now that you’ve seen mine, I want to hear yours.

What is your favorite animal? Is it represented in your house?

*And yes I’ve read the novel by Peter S. Beagle. And own a signed copy. And the sequel novella. And the graphic novel. I am that into unicorns.

  • At first I thought, no… don’t really have any animals represented, then I looked up from the computer. Duh! We have Wyland art everywhere on the walls, so dolphins and whales are kinda everywhere… LMAO. Yeah, our obsession with the ocean is well everywhere. :)

  • OMG this CRACKS me up. I LOVE the pillow and the orange crate label. So cool!!
We don’t really have an obsession with any animals… oh wait. I lie. I have chickens all over my house and 4 in my backyard. Disregard. :-) I love chickens… but it seems to manifested only once we moved to our new town, which is known as the egg basket of the world.
    So Imma dork too :-)

  • This was so fun! Really cool. I’m not into unicorns so much–or animals as decoration at all really: what’s wrong with me??? I do love me some modular wooden furniture FWIW.

  • They are quite fascinating right? Our favorite animal? Dogs! : ) I really like the 3rd and 5th photos…and the 4th is hilarious

  • My favorite animal are felines (specifically cats) and birds {specifically owls and peacocks}. I have 3 small yellow birds on top of my stove as decoration oh! and I have a turtle spoon rest. I used to have a thing for frogs.. so I have a small collection at m parents house.

  • LOVE the steampunk picture! I have several animal things around the house–mostly live ones, 3 cats and a dog; plus all the hair they shed could make a whole herd more. Most of my wall art is floral, but if you go in the garden, you’ll find my obsession is with dragonflies–wind chimes, stakes, more wind chimes (oh I do have one stained glass one hiding behind the curtains in the living room too).

  • Ok it is a tie for first between Mr T and the magical poop! LOVE LOVE LOVE! My obsession? Hmmmmm….. Some may say I collect kids. :)

  • Bwahahaha, I love that pillow!

  • You remind me of that commercial where the wife has a wall full of unicorn pictures and she wants to put up one more and the husband is just dumbfounded.

I used to collect pigs, but I stopped when I realized I was wasting money on… well… pigs. My husband has a very weird addiction to collecting Beanie Babies. Seriously, we have boxes and boxes and boxes of them in the garage… and bags and bags and bags of them in the house. It’s insane!

  • I seriously LOL’d with the “I Poop Magic” pillow. So to the point! I like giraffes. I didn’t before but when buying stuff for my daughter’s nursery, that kind of became prevalant.
