Last summer a dear friend moved up by Seattle with her family, including my son’s closest friend.
She was a flower child, a hiker, a sweetheart, a good friend, and I never heard her use one curse word.
She was such a good influence on me.
The happiest memories I have of her is when she pulled out her guitar and began singing sweet, funny little songs. She has the ability to be sweet and silly that I just can’t muster enough of.
When I started listening to Vanessa Trien and The Jumping Monkeys ‘ new album ‘Bubble Ride’ I got transported to an Easter playdate last spring, when the babies were just walking enough to go egg hunting and my friend sat around and enthralled the tiny tots with a song about ice cream she had made up and watching them play with bubbles.
Oh, I miss you girl.
The songs on ‘Bubble Ride’ are sweet and fun and just a little silly, the kind of songs that I could see my friend singing to our songs while they grabbed at the strings in joy. Great for the preschool set, Vanessa and her band exude a simple joy while playing songs that make my son sway back and forth in the car seat on the way to preschool.
Wonder Boy’s quick favorite was ‘Tickle Monster” a song easy for littles to sing along to since the chorus repeats. It also begs a little involvement as every little tickle monster gets caught up in the fun. I totally envision my friend turning into a tickle monster at every chorus.
The songs are great for the toddler and preschool set, easy to find the beats and the words, even if they just moo and baah toalong”Moomooheehawbaabaaneigh”, which goes through the happy laughing sounds of the barnyard animals.
My favorite track is the title track “Bubble Ride” which fantasizes about floating in a bubble, your cares behind you. It’s a great visualization for stressed out mothers and a reminder for anyone to take a moment and free yourself from your worries.
And bubbles are just fun.
Wonder Boy, April 2011
Bubble Ride is available starting today, October 2, 2012 on CD Baby and on iTunes.

Would you like to float in a bubble?
I was given a copy of this album to review for this post. No other compensation was given.

This sounds great. It’s nice to know about all the terrific music options out there for toddlers these days — back in the day, we only had the most insipid, saccharine stuff. That, and Free to be You and Me. This sounds like such a fun musical option for playtime with the children.
Love this song too! I hope to see more artists like Vanessa Trien and The Jumping Monkeys.
Wonder boy is adorable! I remember playing those kid-centric dvds and cds when my kids were small – I can still remember the words to many of them, 20 years later. They stay with you!
Sounds utterly delightful. With so much kiddie music out there, it’s hard to know where the really good music is.
What fun! I love learning about new music options for kids! Thanks so much for sharing!
Cute! They remind me of the Lauri Berkner Band. We were very into them for a while until we listened so much I couldn’t take it anymore. Love the bubble pic.
I definitely want to float in a bubble!
Sounds like a good kid pick. We’ve moved on to Sublime, Nirvana and Lily Allen, but it’s nice to know quality kid songs are out there.
how cute! I love the new kids music that is debuting. So trendy, hip and gets me up and moving!
I love this! They are so cute, and I am always looking for awesome new music for Dee! (I’m sorry your friend moved away. That’s the worst.)
Kid music happens to be one of my faves. Thanks for sharing… love the bubble pic
