One Small Thing – the 80/20 Rule



I don’t diet.

I neither have the willpower nor the stamina.

What I DO have, however, is a desire to eat healthfully and a weakness for chocolate and wine.

So that’s where the 80/20 comes in.

I am an indulgent Libra, and to completely shut off some things would just not work for me.

I’ve flirted with the idea of being Vegan Before 6 like Mark Bittman, but so far I have never come close.

But trying to eat healthy most of the time? Yep.



I learned the 80/20 rule years ago, on a blog that I can’t quite remember the name of, and many have adopted it, written books about it, and pinned stuff on it.

But skip all that, because this is the easiest thing ever.

I aim for making good choices 80 percent of the time. Do I lose weight just by doing this?

Sweet potato fries over regular. Salad for lunch. Making my own coffee at home and using unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Guacamole and fresh veggies for snack.

And heck yeah, when I have dessert it’s more than a bowl of fruit.

And with this, you make the rules. You can make your 80 percent be organic, be homemade, be vegan, whatever. Be whatever goal you want it to be, and with that other 20 percent you’re drinking margaritas and eating tater tots.

And you can say you’re on a diet! If you need a label.
